What is different about working in Queensland
Humidity, not heat, is the constraint. High humidity slows evaporation from the petal surface and encourages browning on dense headed flowers, which is why hydrangea, peony and dahlia struggle here in a way they do not in a dry Perth summer at the same temperature.
In exchange, Queensland has the best access in the country to tropical and subtropical varieties: anthurium, heliconia, ginger and orchid, alongside strong Queensland natives. These are structurally robust, they photograph with texture, and they cost less here than they do anywhere south.

Lead times in Queensland
Local and tropical supply is short, generally one to two weeks. Imported varieties run three to four weeks through the Brisbane market and then by road to the coastal markets. Council permits for beach and park ceremony sites are the long pole at six to ten weeks.
